Hampton names new lifeguard station named for Jimmy Donahue

The new lifeguard station at Hampton Beach has been named in honor of Jimmy Donahue. Donahue, 68, is chief lifeguard at the beach, where he has been on duty for 53 years. He has been a lifeguard during summer breaks from high school, college, and his job as a physical education and science teacher at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in Haverhill. Though he retired from teaching, Donahue remains on duty at the beach. The new lifeguard station was built as part of the $14.5 million rehabilitation of Hampton’s beach facilities.
