The Winchester High girls were denied in the Division 2 state final with a heart-wrenching 10-9 loss to Medfield Monday night at Babson College. But it was a memorable 23-2 run for the Sachems under coach Suzanne Ontso, who will graduate 10 seniors.
“When you have 10 seniors and have girls that are so focused every day and constantly wanting to get better, they’re what you want your team to be,” said Ontso.
“My expectations were high this year for this group and short of a pipe and five more minutes [in the game], we would have won.”
But Ontso is confident in the letter winners that will return in 2013, led by Harvard recruit Megan Hennessey.
“The seniors leave some serious holes and their legacy was their unselfishness,” said Ontso. “But the girls coming back will hopefully be fired up and ready to play, and next year will be their turn to take care of the unfinished business.”
