Anti-poverty agency to open site in town

An area anti-poverty agency has opened a new satellite site in Winthrop. Community Action Programs, Inter-City is a Chelsea-based nonprofit with a core area of Chelsea, Revere, and Winthrop. The agency for some years has operated Head Start classrooms in the former E.B. Newton School building on Pauline Street. Last month, CAPIC broadened its presence in Winthrop by opening its first multiservice site in town, located at the senior center. At the site, CAPIC is offering a comprehensive array of services, including home weatherization, workforce development, fuel assistance, domestic violence intervention, and tax preparation. Residents can also stop by to apply for the Head Start program at the Newton school, as well as for CAPIC’s child development, after school, and summer camp programs, all of which are offered in Chelsea. All of CAPIC’s services are free. For more information, call 617-884-6130.
