EPA to begin cleanup of Fletcher Paint Works

Cleanup of the Fletcher Paint Works is about to begin, nearly 25 years after the site was named to the list of federal Superfund sites. The Environmental Protection Agency has announced that it will begin testing the site near the Milford Oval to determine where to build the support walls needed to facilitate the excavation of soil that was contaminated by years of exposure to oil and chemical solvents. The EPA plans to dig up thousands of cubic yards of contaminated soil at the 2-acre site on Elm Street and transport it to a landfill in New York.
