At its annual meeting June 25, the Tewksbury Historical Society will feature a talk by Keith Rauseo about Ames Castle and the man who built it, Adelbert Ames. The estate, off Catamount Road, has been a focus of attention in town because a builder is pursuing plans for a development at the site. A brigadier general in the Union Army during the Civil War, Ames later served as a senator and governor in post-war Mississippi, and as a brigadier general in the Spanish-American War. Ames built the castle in the early 1900s and used it as a summer residence, according to David Marcus, president of the Historical Society. Rauseo is town moderator and a member of the Historical Commission. The society’s annual meeting, which is free and open to the public, will be held at the library at 6 p.m., with Rauseo’s talk scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m.
