Congregation Shirat Hayam hosts bike-a-thon

More than 100 bicyclists are expected to cover various routes around the North Shore on Sunday as Congregation Shirat Hayam, 55 Atlantic Ave., hosts the Tour de Shuls, an annual bike-a-thon to raise funds for the Tikvah Program at Camp Ramah of New England, located in Palmer. With staggered start times throughout the morning, beginning at 7:15, riders will depart on routes of various lengths, from 10 to 75 miles, to as far as Gloucester and Newburyport. Along the way, various synagogues will serve as rest stops, and riders will finish in Swampscott in the early afternoon, where an event is planned for riders and friends at the synagogue. Sponsored by The New England Region of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs, the ride benefits the program for developmentally challenged teenagers and young adults. There is a $72 registration fee, plus a fund-raising/donation minimum of $50 per rider. Families can ride for $100, plus a $100 donation minimum. The public is welcome.
