Local schools selected for $6.3m in federal aid

Four Lawrence schools were among those recently chosen by the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to share $13.7 million in federal aid. In all, the schools will split $6.3 million over the next three years, equaling 46 percent of the total amount awarded. Schools that will benefit include the Business Management and Finance High School, the International High School, the South Lawrence East Middle School, and the James F. Leonard Middle School. As a state-declared Level 5 district — one determined to have the highest need for improvement — Lawrence will also receive an additional $250,000 to implement grant-funded plans.
