Lynn English pitcher Ben Bowden and Lynn Classical catcher Kyle Devin have earned spots on the Northeast roster for the upcoming Area Code Games, representing the New York Yankees.

As a junior at English, Bowden picked up six wins on the mound, striking out 82 while compiling a 2.19 earned run average. The 6-foot-4 righty threw a perfect game in his first start this season, April 7 against Marblehead, fanning 14. He hit two homers and had 21 RBIs for the Bulldogs (12-11).

Ben “is a big-time prospect,’’ said English coach Joe Caponigro. “On a team that only had two seniors, he won half of our ball games on the mound and another three games with the bat.”

Devin, one of five underclassmen on the Northeast team, was a Northeast conference all-star as a sophomore for the Rams. The catcher stole nine bases and hit .431 with two home runs and 20 RBIs.

“Kyle is one of the most intense competitors I've ever coached,” said Classical coach Mike Zukowski. “The success he has on the playing field is a direct result of the hard work he puts in every day at practice. There is no one harder on Kyle than himself. He is the captain of the infield from behind the plate. He has been a big reason for our team's success in the past years and we are looking for him to continue that next year.”

The Area Code Games will be held Aug. 5-10 at Blair Field in Long Beach, Calif.
