Farmers market opens on Wednesday

Organizers have announced this year’s farmers market will be held every Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 7 p.m., beginning this week through Oct. 31 in Everett Square. The outdoor market, which began in 2009, offers residents the chance to buy freshly picked vegetables and fruits grown on area farms, and other items such as baked goods and artwork. It also features musical performers. The market was previously held on Saturdays, but organizers moved it to Wednesdays to accommodate a larger number of residents. The market accepts payment under the federal WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program; the federal Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program; and SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program). It is run by the staff and volunteers of Energize Everett, a city program that encourages residents to exercise and follow a healthy diet. The group is continuing to seek volunteers, vendors, and performers for this year’s market. For more information, call 617-389-3365.
