Police Department launches interactive app

The Police Department recently announced it had joined several other area and national agencies in launching MyPD, a smartphone application that provides a high-tech avenue to communicate with local police. The app, purchased by the department from WiredBlue, can be added free to any iPhone or Android device. By pressing the MyPD icon, residents can access the Police Department’s website and department contacts, offer feedback, submit a tip, or get a question answered, according to officials. While not intended as a substitute for dialing 911 in an emergency, officials noted that the app allows users convenience in taking care of a matter quickly, and alleviates the apprehension many feel if they want to call the department to ask a simple question. They said it also provides the department a new opportunity to foster contacts and generate valuable information.
