Fire department to receive more than $14,000 in federal funds

The Beverly Fire Department will receive a $14,088 federal grant to expand its fire prevention education program. The grant, announced by Beverly Deputy Fire Chief Peter O'Connor and US Representative John F. Tierney, will come from funds allocated by the Department of Homeland Security’s Fire Prevention and Safety Program. In a statement, O’Connor said the fund would be used to educate the public about fire safety. He said over the last decade, at least a dozen families in Beverly have been displaced after fires. “In each case, the fires were caused by human factors that are easily preventable,” he said.
