City offers free shuttle service for seniors to farmers’ market

In an effort to encourage seniors to use the Tuesday farmers’ market, the city is offering free shuttle service from 10 senior housing sites to the market, which is held from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Leather City Common, 55 Lowell St.  A Council on Aging van will pick up interested riders starting at 4 p.m., making stops at Rockdale Park, Eastman Park, Bresnahan Park, Peabody House (18 Walnut St.), Fairweather Apartments, Connolly Terrace, Penelope Apartments, Wilson Terrace, 103 Central St., and 75 Central St. The van will return all riders to their residences after their shopping. Depending on interest, there may be more than one shuttle loop provided each Tuesday. The service is being offered through funding from the Peabody Community Development Authority and the Council on Aging. In addition to the Tuesday market, the city has a Saturday farmers market that is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Peabody Institute Library, 82 Main St. For more information, go to www.peabodyfarmersmarket.org.
