Watering restrictions imposed

The Department of Public Services has implemented mandatory restrictions on outdoor watering because of concerns about the total amount of water the city is able to pump. Currently, Newburyport is able to pump up to 3.5 million gallons per day. To ensure that the city's water demand remains below that limit, local leaders are restricting both the days and hours that residents may water outdoors. Residents who have odd-numbered street addresses may water only on days with odd-numbered dates; those with even-numbered street addresses may water only on days with even-numbered dates. All outdoor watering is restricted to the hours of 6 to 9 a.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.  Penalties for violating these restrictions will be imposed: $50 for the first violation and $100 for each subsequent violation.
