Some of the questions students who attend the Elizabeth Peabody House after-school program asked Jay Holmes, Barack Obama’s former landlord at 365 Broadway in Somerville:

Did you meet Michelle Obama?

No, the president wasn’t married when he lived here.

Did he [Obama] get any parking tickets here?

Yes. Obama drove a black sedan, and would park it on Broadway in front of the building.

How much was rent? Did he pay?

$900. Yes, he always paid rent.

Did you hang out with Obama?

No, Holmes said. “We would chitchat.” Holmes said Obama had a lot of friends who would come and go. “He likes to enjoy himself. No wild parties, but good clean fun.”

How old was the president?

He was probably 35. I was 40-something.

How old is the building?

It was built in 1882.
