Somerville food truck ordinance passed

The Board of Aldermen last month unanimously passed a city ordinance to license and control food trucks. Food truck proprietors will have to go before the aldermen and have a public hearing on their application. Vendors be allowed to operate between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., and will have to meet city health codes that apply to traditional restaurants. The city also asks truck vendors to not use plastic foam containers, and suggests the use of compostable utensils and plates. The ordinance also encourages vendors to provide healthy food options, and that dessert vendors provide at least one healthy option. The ordinance also outlines enforcement of infractions using an escalating scale of fines, starting at $100 for breaking other city rules regarding traffic, parking, health codes, and noise.
