Public input sought on potential changes to trash program

Malden is considering changes to its trash program and the public is being asked to weigh in, according to Mayor Gary Christenson. The mayor has organized a group of volunteers to consider changes in the trash-collection program, commonly referred to as pay-as-you-throw. Established in 2008, the program requires households to dispose of trash in marked blue bags that are available at local stores. The bags cost more than normal trash bags and are aimed at generating revenue for the city and reducing waste-hauling expenses. A nine-question citizen survey about the program can be found online at the city’s website, cityofmalden.org.
