Lowell’s Department of Planning and Development will hold an open community workshop on the Tanner Street District Economic Development Plan beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at the LRTA Building, 100 Hale St. Attendees will have a chance to review the draft plan for the district, which encompasses the once-contaminated former site of Silresim Chemical Corp. After on-site treatment of area ground water, the Environmental Protection Agency awarded the city a grant to explore uses for the district, which led to development of the Tanner Street Initiative. Results of a reuse and redevelopment study show the district has tremendous development potential as well as excellent highway access.
