City, state, and federal officials joined US Representative Edward J. Markey last Monday for a ceremony dedicating the new pedestrian bridge at the MBTA Wonderland Blue Line station in memory of Markey’s parents. Scheduled to open in January, the Christina and John Markey Memorial Pedestrian Bridge will provide access from the new Wonderland Transit Center to Revere Beach, eliminating the need for beachgoers to cross Ocean Avenue on foot. The bridge was funded primarily through a $20 million federal grant as part of the 2010 stimulus law, according to the US Department of Transportation. In addition to the bridge, the transit center includes a new $59.3 million parking garage and bus terminal, both funded in part with $22.7 million in stimulus funds and completed this past June.
