Salem Common pathways upgraded

The stone dust pathway surrounding Salem Common has been upgraded thanks to a donation from Aggregate Industries. The project involved laying down fresh stone dust on the half-mile path, which circles the historic common on Hawthorne Boulevard. Aggregate, a construction materials company with a facility on Swampscott Road, donated nearly 450 tons of stone dust and provided all the equipment and labor, according to city officials. About 15 Aggregate workers graded the walkways, laid down the stone dust with an asphalt spreader, and compacted the material with a vibratory roller. The path was last improved more than 10 years ago. “Aggregate’s generous donation of manpower, equipment, and materials made this improvement project possible,” said Mayor Kimberley L. Driscoll. “The new paths look terrific.”
