Town meets with firm tapped for Town Hall project

Town Manager Richard Montuori planned to hold a preliminary meeting this past week with the architectural firm selected by Tewksbury to design the planned $6.1 million project to overhaul Town Hall. The town and Kang Associates of Sudbury recently finalized a contract for the design work, which is expected to take four to seven months, according to Montuori. He said a kick-off meeting between Kang and selectmen will be held in several weeks. The project, which Tewksbury is paying for with its Community Preservation Fund, involves renovations to the interior of the Main Street building, including upgrades to mechanical systems, improved handicap access; and expansion of meeting space, potentially through construction of an addition. It also calls for repairing the brick exterior and replacing the roof and windows. Montuori said the town is in discussions with the owner of the Ira Toyota dealership on Main Street about using the vacant Hardy-Pike House as temporary town office space during the 18-to 24-month construction period. The historic building, formerly occupied by A Novel Café, is located on Ira Toyota property.
