Report: Downtown needs more public parking

It’s going to get more difficult to park downtown. According to a draft report released by the city’s parking garage site selection committee, the downtown had a shortfall in 2012 of about 120 public parking spaces at peak demand periods. That shortfall will only increase next year when a 205-space downtown parking lot is eliminated by Portwalk and the new hotel, apartment, restaurant, and retail development will increase the demand for downtown parking. The report was released a few weeks after the committee agreed it needed to make a stronger case for a new parking garage.
