Burlington Reads will kick off with ‘Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet’

The public library recently announced that the novel “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet,” by Jamie Ford, will be the featured book in its next Burlington Reads program, which begins in March. In Burlington Reads, the library encourages residents to read a common book and attend special events related to it. As part of its planning for the March program, the library invited residents to vote for the book to be featured that month. “Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” was chosen from among three titles. The library will have multiple copies of the book available for borrowing in January. Meanwhile, the Friends of the Burlington Public Library are inviting residents to their annual Holiday Dessert Tasting and Recipe Swap on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. at the library. The event offers participants an opportunity to bring their own dessert specialties and sample others, and to exchange recipes. All are welcome, including those who are just there for the sweets. The event also begins a renewed effort by the Friends to collect recipes for a specialty cookbook. Those planning to bring a baked item are urged to register in advance by going to the calendar on the library’s website,, and finding the link to the event under the Dec. 20 listing. They can also call 781-505-4985.
