Somerville’s community development office is offering residents interest-free loans to replace home heating systems, according to city officials. The loans will cover up to $4,500 of the cost to replace faulty or inefficient heating systems in owner-occupied homes. “With cold weather approaching, this is a great program to help replace an aging gas or oil heating system,” said Dana LeWinter, Somerville’s housing director. To qualify, applicants must fall within income guidelines set by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which is funding the program.
