City officials will consider reducing the number of required parking spaces for apartment complexes within walking distance of the Malden Center stop on the Orange Line. The proposed ordinance change would cut in half required parking spaces per residential unit within 1,000 feet of the MBTA stop, according to a city spokesman. Current city ordinances require all new residential developments in the Central Business District to have 1.5 available parking spaces per unit. The amendment calls for .75 spaces per dwelling located within 1,000 feet of the stop and 1.25 spaces within 2,000 feet. Space requirements would remain the same beyond 2,000 feet. The proposal was originally slated to be discussed by the Planning Board earlier this month, but has been tabled until a meeting on Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. at Malden Government Center.
