The first fall, we gamely went out on a sunny day with rakes and shovels and large plastic bags. Four hours later, we had 3½ bags full of leaves and searing pain in our backs. Two young brothers who did snow removal for the house’s prior owner completed the leaf collection. We paid them with cash and sincere thanks and tried to keep our tears of joy from spilling out of our eyes until the young men left.
