Due to vacancies in the assessor’s office, selectmen have approved a proposal from finance director Warren Sproul to temporarily increase part-time hourly pay to entice town employees to fill in the gaps. The rate was raised from $12 to $14.78 for those working more than 20 hours, but less than 40 hours, and who would answer the phone, tend to various questions, provide forms, and do other administrative work. Chief assessor Karen Rassias resigned at the end of November, citing the town’s political climate for her decision. Sproul said he expects to have the position filled by early February. Officials are looking for candidates with five to seven years of experience, according to the job posting, and will offer a salary between $75,000 and $86,681.
