Local residents have an opportunity to volunteer their time for their community on Martin Luther King Jr. Day next month. Several community organizations have formed a coalition to organize Lynn’s participation in the annual National Day of Service program that will be held across the country as part of the holiday, which falls on Jan. 21. Lynn Community Association, Girls Inc., Coalition that Cares, Social Capital Inc., RAW Arts, Circle of Nations, and The Food Project have been working for several months to identify service projects and have obtained a grant from the Massachusetts Service Alliance to help purchase supplies for the event. About 100 volunteers are expected to participate. There will be two shifts, with a pizza party for volunteers for each shift. For more information or to register as a volunteer, go to www.Lynncommunity.org. Those wanting to sign up can also call 781-592-9744, ext. 243.
