The YWCA of Greater Lawrence has been awarded a $10,000 Verizon Foundation grant to provide education and training on domestic violence issues for health care professionals and first responders. In partnership with Lawrence General Hospital and the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center, the YWCA will present a series on topics such as Domestic Violence 101, Teen Dating Violence, and Workplace Safety for Victims and Agencies. Discussions that led to the development of the training followed the September 2012 murder of Milka Rivera, a staff member at the family health center, as well as her two children, by her longtime partner.
