Thursday is the deadline for contractors to submit bids to remove asbestos and demolish some walls for a new $4.5 million science wing at Melrose High School. Bids are due by 1 p.m. to the Office of Planning and Community Development at City Hall. Most of the asbestos is located in flooring, caulking, and behind blackboards in the school, built in the 1970s. The removal is to be conducted during the February school vacation week, said city planner Denise Gaffey.
