Mayor Daniel Rizzo recently announced his appointment of Michael Hinojosa as director of the city’s Recreation Department, replacing Adrienne Maguire. A longtime Revere resident and 1988 graduate of Revere High School, Hinojosa has long been active in local youth sports. During the past decade, he has coached baseball, basketball, and softball teams at numerous age levels in the city. In 2009 he led the U-10 Babe Ruth softball team to a state championship and fifth place at the New England Regional Tournament. The following year, he led the Middle School softball team to a perfect 16-0 record. This year, he served as director of Revere Babe Ruth Baseball. “There were many candidates we considered for the position, but I felt that Michael’s energy and enthusiasm for youth recreational activities and sports programs, as well as his ideas pertaining to older youth/adult programs, set him apart,” Rizzo said.
