School Committee looks to fill vacant seat

The School Committee is looking to fill a vacant seat by early February and is accepting candidates for the job. Ward 1 committee representative Maureen Bastardi resigned Dec. 13 after her appointment to Bill Roche’s old seat on the City Council. Roche also resigned Dec. 13 and took over as the city’s personnel director on a part-time, interim basis. The School Committee will accept letters of interest from candidates, along with resumes or lists of qualifications, until Jan. 10, School Committee chairman Paul Bockelman said during a recent meeting. Interviews of potential candidates are expected to be held later in January, and a new committee member will be appointed by Feb. 4, Bockelman said.
