A Winchester 14-year-old earlier this month was the grand prize winner of the Just a Minute film festival. Maisie Smith, a freshman at the Cambridge School of Weston, walked away with the $500 top prize for her stop-motion movie dubbed “Parachute.” Smith took digital photographs of paper drawings and used video editing software to create a one-minute film that illustrates the lyrics of the song “Parachute,” by Ingrid Michaelson. In all, more than 200 entries were submitted to this year’s festival, which invites amateur filmmakers to showcase their talents in short film clips, no longer than 1 minute. The Just a Minute festival is an online competition that celebrates short visual productions created using any format, media, or equipment.
