Changes made to Town Hall hours

Town officials recently announced changes in the public hours at Town Hall and the Town Hall Annex. Additional evening hours and fewer hours on Friday were approved by the Board of Selectmen in December. In addition to Town Hall and the annex, the new office hours apply to departments in the human services building, but not to programs of the Recreation Department and Council on Aging, which are housed in that building. The new hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The new hours take effect next week, according to town clerk Amy Warfield. She said the change has been made as a convenience to residents, not to save costs. “It was designed to give the public greater access to services,” she said. “The feeling was that people who work outside of town may not be able to make it back for essential services as early as 4:30 p.m.,” she said. The 7 o’clock closing gives them the opportunity to get to Town Hall before it closes.”
