The town clerk’s office plans to mail town census forms to all households during a two- to three-week period beginning in mid- to late January. Residents are asked to review the forms, make needed changes, and return them as soon as possible. Residents need to be included in the census to maintain their active voter status, and to qualify for veterans’ and housing benefits and in-state tuition at state colleges and universities. The town uses census data for planning and to apply for state and federal grants. Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works recently selected the 13 winners of its annual calendar contest. The department each year invites sixth graders at the Holten-Richmond Middle School to submit drawings for the calendar on a particular theme. This year’s topic was electric safety. The winners, chosen from from 75 students participating, were Olivia Bedard, Hailey Black, Nicole Crateau, Dessa Daras, Timmy DeCoff, Makayla Gangas, Cooper Hanson, Ethan McGrath, Kevin Pohle, Samantha Pelletier, Michael Shannon, Owen Welch, and Kyle White. The 13 students will be presented with award certificates and a copy of the 2013 calendar at the Jan. 14 School Committee meeting.
