With Lawrence Mayor William Lantigua announcing plans to seek reelection in November, his former opponent, David Abdoo, has indicated he may run against him a second time. Abdoo has petitioned to have Lantigua removed from office more than once since the 2009 election. In the 2009 decision, Lantigua won 54 percent of the vote to Abdoo’s 46 percent. A Dominican immigrant who came to the country as a teenager, Lantigua was the city and state’s first elected Hispanic mayor. He succeeded Michael Sullivan, who served two terms. Abdoo is a former city councilor who also spent 10 years on the city’s Planning Board.
