Second annual snowshoe race kicks off Feb. 10

On Feb. 10, the Recreation Department is planning its second annual Snowshoe Classic at Brooksby Farm, a 5-kilometer snowshoe race. Participants can register in advance or on the day of the race. Registration on race day will open at 8:30 a.m., with the race starting at 10 a.m. The race begins and ends near the sales barn at the city-owned farm on Felton Road. The course will extend in a loop around the farm’s orchard and woods and include both single- and double-track trails. In the event of poor snow conditions, the race will be a trail run. The first 50 registrants will receive a pair of custom-designed action-performance wool socks. Additional awards will be provided to the top male and female contestants overall and in various age categories, and the top couple. The registration fee is $20 prior to Feb. 1, and $50 starting on that date. A limited supply of snowshoes are available for rent for $5, or $10 for a premium pair, with preregistration required for the rentals. To register, or for more information, contact the Recreation Department at 978-536-7132, or go to the department’s page on the city’s website, www.peabody-ma.gov.
