Burlington Mall is inviting area high school seniors to apply for a scholarship to be awarded this year. The Simon Youth Foundation, in partnership with the mall, each year presents a scholarship to a graduating high school senior from the Burlington area to use toward the cost of their future education. The foundation is a national organization that provides educational opportunities for at-risk students. Based in Indiana, the foundation is the nonprofit arm of Simon Property Group, whose properties include the Burlington Mall. The foundation awards a one-time scholarship of up to $1,400 to one student from every locale that is home to a Simon property. In 2012, it awarded $1.2 million to 378 students nationwide. To apply for a 2013 scholarship, students must reside within 50 miles of a Simon property, be a member of a high school class of 2013, and plan to enroll in an accredited college or university, or a vocational or technical school. Students can pick up a copy of a scholarship application through Friday at the Simon Guest Services Center at Burlington Mall. Through March 1, they can also download an application by going to the foundation’s website, www.syf.org, and clicking on “2013 Scholarships.” Completed applications and other documentation must be submitted by March 1. Winners will be selected based on a variety of criteria, including financial need and academic performance.
