The New England Sled Dog Races, canceled in 2012 because of mild weather conditions, are scheduled for Saturday and next Sunday on the Hamilton portion of Appleton Farms, at the Highland Street entrance. If there’s no snow, the event will be held Feb. 2-3. Admission is free for the event, scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., but parking will cost $20 per car. Patrons are asked to leave pets at home. The event will benefit the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Trustees of Reservations, New England Greenbelt, and the Essex County Trail Association. Major sponsors include Salem Five, NewEngland Biolabs, New England Dragway, Townsend Oil & Propane, and the Ipswich Butcher Shop.
