School Superintendent Ed McDonough has proposed hiring a new school resource officer. The city currently has one school resource officer who is shared by the middle and high schools. At a School Board budget hearing, McDonough said the additional safety officer would be shared by the city’s three elementary schools. He added that the cost would be shared with the Police Department, and the School Department’s $40,000 share might be paid through savings made possible by the department’s retirement incentive program.
