Transportation was a key focus when Governor Deval Patrick held a round-table discussion in Burlington with about 25 area business leaders, municipal officials, and state lawmakers last week. Accompanying Patrick at the meeting, hosted by the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce’s government affairs committee were state Transportation Secretary Richard A. Davey and Gregory Bialecki, the state’s secretary of housing and economic development. “Everyone agreed that transportation in the area and throughout the Commonwealth has to be improved,” said Jim Murphy, president and chief executive of the chamber. Murphy said that the governor heard general support in the room for his plan to raise more than $1 billion annually in added tax revenue to support expanding the state’s transportation system and providing new education programs. The lawmakers on hand were state Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly, an Arlington Democrat who helped organize the meeting, and the new state Representative Kenneth Gordon, a Bedford Democrat.
