City gets $2.7 million for stadium restoration

The city has been awarded $2.7 million in state funds for the restoration of Harry Della Russo Stadium and the stadium’s running track. The state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs is providing the money — $727,000 in fiscal 2014 and $2 million in fiscal 2015 — under its Gateway City Parks program, which supports the creation and restoration of parks and recreational facilities in state-designated gateway cities. The stadium, on Park Avenue, is the home of the Revere High School football team and is also used by other sports groups. The city will pay for the remaining costs of the estimated $4 million project, which is scheduled to begin this July and be completed in June 2015.
