Installation of new electric, water meters nearly done

The Department of Public Works is nearing the completion of its electric and water meter replacement program. During the multiyear project, which is being carried out by National Metering Services, all existing meters are being replaced with automated meters that transmit consumption data by radio to town billing offices. Nearly all of the new electric meters and 90 percent of the water meters have been installed. Town officials are requesting the community’s help to complete the program. Any household or business that has not had its meter replaced is asked to set up an appointment by calling National Metering Services at 888-448-0009 or sending an e-mail through its website, www.nmsnj.com.  There is no charge to the customer for the meter, other equipment, or installation. Anyone with questions can call the DPW business division at 978-774-0005. The project is intended to provide more timely and accurate meter readings, enabling the town to improve customer service, and to better monitor water and electric use and detect water leaks.
