Haverhill has been selected to participate in a program that will allow residents to use a Commonwealth Connect smartphone application to report quality-of-life issues, such as potholes and broken street lights, directly to the local officials for resolution. Users of the system will be able to track the city’s response to the reported problem. The new app is being made available to 35 municipalities. The Commonwealth Connect app is being funded through the state’s Community Innovation Challenge Grant Program, which was launched last fiscal year and invests in innovations that have the potential to lower costs and improve services through regionalization, new uses of technology, and improved management practices. The Commonwealth Connect app, which is being developed through a partnership between the city of Boston and See Click Fix, also will have an interface on the city website, according to Mayor James J. Fiorentini. It is expected to be available for download this spring.
