Winter parking ban being reconsidered

Officials in Medford are looking into changing city’s winter parking ban, which remains in effect throughout the season whether there is snow or not. From Dec. 1 to April 1 each year, parking is limited to one side of the street in all Medford neighborhoods. This can lead to arguments — and sometimes fights — over spaces in parts of the city where parking is tight, City Councilor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said in a recent council meeting. “It causes a real problem, for not the entire community, but a good portion of it,” Lungo-Koehn said. Lungo-Koehn called for a resolution during the council’s meeting Jan. 15 to implement a pilot program in which the parking ban is only in effect during snow emergencies. The council unanimously agreed to send the resolution to the city’s Traffic Commission for consideration.

The real story is that the police don't ticket for any parking infractions.  We had two snow emergencies so far and both times there were illegally parked cars in front of my house with no tickets or towing.  Meanwhile the Mayor is turning public sidewalks into parking platforms for "select" residents.  The city is littered with cars parked on sidewalks, in loading or no parking zones, in 2 hours spots for 8 or10 and anyone who wants can park in a handicapped spot or block a ramp to a sidewalk can without fear of fines..the chief of police have put the word out not oto write tickets because they don't want to upset people. Here even the police and crossing guards park on the sidewalk.
