Three Chelsea High School freshmen, Haidar Karim, Ibrahim Somo, and Hadijat Umarova, were recently selected as MGH Youth Scholars by the Massachusetts General Hospital’s Center for Community Health Improvement. MGH Youth Scholars is a comprehensive four-year program for selected high school students from Boston, Chelsea, and Revere who are interested in health and science careers and have college aspirations. The students take part in after-school and summer activities related to science, technology, engineering, and math that build their skills in those subjects and expose them to potential careers. They are also introduced to the college preparation process. The program takes place on the MGH campus in Boston during the school year and at Wheelock College during the summer. MGH Youth Scholars are eligible for college scholarships of up to $5,000 per year for four years.
