First-graders question Red Sox players

Nearly two dozen first-grade students at Harrington Elementary School recently had a chance to pitch questions to Red Sox players. The students were selected to participate in Red Sox Small Talk, a segment that the NESN television network will air throughout the coming season during its Red Sox pregame coverage. NESN travels to different elementary schools throughout New England to tape children asking questions of the Red Sox, and once those films are edited, players take turns answering some of them. At Harrington, four to five students from each of the school’s five first- grade classes were selected to participate in the filming. Linda Pizzuti Henry, wife of team owner John Henry, directed the students through the process. “It’s a great opportunity for our kids,” the school’s principal, Debra Ruggiero, said in a prepared statement. “We’ve been working on their oral skills, so for them to be in front of a camera is a wonderful experience. It’s pretty impressive how they were able to handle themselves.”
