School Board approves increased budget

The School Board has approved a budget for the next fiscal year of $39,820,958, an increase of 3.965 percent, just within the city’s guideline of a rise of less than 4 percent. Despite the fact that retirement costs are going up 27 percent due to rate increases set by the New Hampshire Retirement System, the district was able to find some savings by offering retirement incentives to teachers. The incentives offered payouts of $12,000 to teachers with at least 15 years of service in the district and $10,000 to those with fewer than 15 years of service. The incentives were accepted by at least three teachers.
