The city is accepting applications from Medford residents to serve on the new Bicycle Advisory Commission. Ten spots are available on the panel, which was created by Mayor Michael J. McGlynn to make Medford more cycling-friendly. The commission is expected to meet six to 10 times per year. Among its tasks: take a census of cyclists living in Medford; create a map of bike routes in the city; recommend improvements to roads and paths to make cycling safer; and recommend safety measures for cyclists and motorists. People who have an interest in either cycling or Medford roadways are encouraged to apply. Letters of interest are due to the mayor’s office by March 15. They can be sent by e-mail to Mary Merrill at mmerrill@medford.org,or by mail to Bicycle Commission, c/o Mary Merrill, Mayor’s Office, Medford City Hall, 85 George P. Hassett Drive, Medford, MA 02155.
