Governor appoints nurse as college trustee


Mary Ellen Daly O’Brien of Haverhill has been appointed to the Northern Essex Community College board of trustees by Governor Deval Patrick. A registered nurse, Daly O’Brien is a case manager at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill, where she is responsible for the clinical assessment of patients’ needs. In addition to her experience as a department and case manager, Daly O’Brien has 12 years of experience as an emergency room nurse and served as a Haverhill city councilor for 11 years. A native of Haverhill, she holds an associate degree in nursing from Vermont College/Norwich University. She also has earned certifications in leadership management, emergency room nursing, and intensive care nursing. A mother of four girls, Daly O’Brien is active with the Democratic City Committee and supports The ARC, Career Resources, and organizations and projects that serve young women. She has also been a recipient of the Bold Award, presented by Girls Inc. “We are honored to have such an involved member of the community join our board,” said the college’s president, Lane Glenn.
