Teacher recognized for outstanding work

Judith Chmielecki of North Andover has been named a recipient of the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Award for Excellence, a national honor that recognizes outstanding teachers in the country’s community colleges. Chmielecki teaches English as a second language at Northern Essex Community College, where she has worked for more than 13 years. An advocate for student success, Chmielecki is active in college projects, regularly sharing ideas with colleagues to support ESL curriculum development. Recently, Chmielecki assumed responsibility for coordinating the ESL Learning Social Club. A graduate of Salem State College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education, Chmielecki also completed graduate work at Lesley College and Fitchburg State College. She was one of four Northern Essex staff members to receive this prestigious award. Since its inception in 1978, the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development has emphasized the importance of teaching and leadership excellence in institutions of higher learning. The organization has been honoring the best teachers in higher education since 1989.
